While my focus is on Boer Goat search terms, I am also going to present tables for the other kinds of goats I have done web pages for (Kiko, Pygmy, Savanna). At the time of this writing, I have designed 55 sites for goat farmers / ranchers. 24 are primarily Boer Goats (although 3 of those also have Kiko Goats) and one is for Kiko and Savanna Goats. I have also done a number of sites for Beagle breeders, Dorper Sheep breeders, and Cattle producers.

The main search phrase is obviously "Goat" or "Boer Goat" -- but that is really not a search made by some looking to purchase goats. A person who enters "Goats for Sale"(or "Boer Goats for Sale") is much more likely to buy a goat and "Goats for Sale in Tennessee" (or, of course, "Boer Goats for Sale in Tennessee") is even more likely to result in a sale.

This page is to showcase the results of the search engine optimization work I have done on my sites. I tell all of my clients that I try to get their websites in the top 10 for the following phrases "[Breed] Goats" "[Breed] Goats for Sale" and "[Breed] Goats for Sale in [State]" --- Substitute [Breed] for Boer, Kiko, etc and State for Tennessee, Texas, etc.

As a technical note, even though the search keyphrases in this article have quotes around them, none of the search results mentioned later used those quotes.

So, how are my sites doing? (Last update of this table: 8/24/2007)

Explanation of the table: The Sites in Category is the number of sites I have designed that I expect to be listed in that keyphrase and the number in the search engine column shows the number of the top ten results for that phrase that are sites that I designed.

"But," I can hear you thinking, "how come you only have 1 site that you expect for Arkansas, and you have 7 entries in Yahoo." The answer is multiple entries for the same site. For "South Carolina", it is more interesting. Not only is the primary site listed, but other sites are there (because they have been optimized for adjacent states). Recently, I noticed that my sites are also faring well in states that I do not even have a client.

I chose to only list the results in the top 10, because it is not likely that results outside of the top 10 are going to receive appreciable results. I did list top Page 1 Results for Boer Goats For Sale* -- which is much more competitive. My goal is to have my sites occupying at least half of the top 10, top 20 , top 30 and top 50 in that category. In the case of Boer Goats for sale, 40% of the results in the top 50 are my sites, and 34% of the top 100 in Yahoo are mine

Note: these results change daily (and even present themselves differently at the same time based on the datacenter from which the searcher seeks the results). All searches were done manually (not with a computer program). I updated these numbers periodically.

At one point, I checked the percentages, and 21% of all of the search phrases I monitor are in the number one position, while an astounding 59% are in the top 10.
